Campbell Law’s Black Law Student Association partners with My Goal, Our Mission to bring Christmas to local children
Each year BLSA co-hosts a Christmas party with My Goal Our Mission Inc. to bring Christmas to children in our local community.
Beginning in 2013, the Black Law Student Association (“BLSA”) at Campbell School of Law has partnered with a local non-profit organization, My Goal Our Mission Inc., to host an annual Christmas party for local low-income children. Each year since, the Christmas party has been a great success, with many Campbell Law students, faculty, and staff members becoming involved to give the children of My Goal Our Mission a Christmas to remember.
My Goal, Our Mission is a local non-profit organization that was founded by husband and wife duo, David and Allison Chisley. The organization works as an outreach program assisting and mentoring youth in Raleigh, Fayetteville, and Garner. Their mission is to provide youth with positive experiences and empower them to excel in their academic endeavors and become productive members of society. The organization targets youths through its youth advocate mentoring and interventions program, which includes helping children overcome peer pressure, lessons on identity and self-esteem, math and reading tutoring, and workshops on dreams and success.
My Goal Our Mission also provides community outreach, heath prevention programs (bringing STD and HIV awareness as well as offering free testing), and veterans support which includes pre-arranged transportation services and community resources to veterans and their families. As a testament to their services, this non-profit organization has been nominated 3 years in a row as finalist for the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Integrity in Business Award.
BLSA partners with My Goal Our Mission each year because it believes in their mantra that “children today are our future Kings and Queens,” and their goal working together so that we can achieve the mutual goal of improving the quality of life of those we serve. The BLSA/My Goal Our Mission Christmas party is hosted at Campbell Law School, and involves a coming together of the law school community and the local community. Each year, BLSA reaches out to the law school’s various student organizations to sponsor a child which entails buying each child a Christmas present.
BLSA then puts on a party that includes food, holiday music, Santa Clause, and games/lottery buckets that allows the families to win prizes.1 The entire Campbell Law School family joins BLSA to pull this off, including our very own professors and deans showing up to lend a helping hand. This year, the party was held on December 12, 2015, and Campbell Law’s combined student organizations were able to sponsor over 50 children. BLSA hopes to continue the partnership with My Goal Our Mission for many Christmas seasons to come!
